PART V – FAITH, MARRIAGE, AND LOSS (1991_2000)

Chapter 18
Micah’s Birth, Eight Years of Hope, and Another Loss

My second wife Tina and I had both agreed that we did not want children, but that changed when she informed me that she wanted a child after several years of marriage. I had a vasectomy after Ben and Bryan were born, not expecting any more children, but her parents, wanting grandchildren, loaned us the $6,000 for a vasectomy reversal. That was in 1990, and on October 1, 1991, our son Micah was born.

Micah

There was a lot of tension in our marriage because of my understanding of the Truth of God. Tina would have nothing to do with it until she decided she wanted a baby. After Micah was born, she began attending Sabbath Services with me and attending the Feast of Tabernacles each year, which is a seven-day Feast, with the Last Great Day following. She became the children’s choir director for the South Church. I believed God was calling her, but after eight years, she quit, retired from the Credit Union, and went back to college.

Micah was around nine years old when Tina and I divorced in late 1999. Again, I lost the father-son relationship with Micah, and I was devastated again.

Micah was a beautiful baby, as all of my children were, but he came along late in my life, and he became very special to me. He was a cute little boy. You could ask him if he were a man, and he would strain and show his muscles until his face turned red. We became fearful he might burst a blood vessel, so we stopped asking, although it was adorable.

When we remodeled our house in Lake Jackson, we had a long hallway that ran from the kitchen through the living room to the den in the back. Micah would wear out the toes of his little tennis shoes riding his toy push car back and forth through that hallway.

After the divorce, Micah lived in Lake Jackson with his mother, and I moved a few blocks away. I didn’t want to lose the bond I had with him.
